Blwyddyn 5 / Year 5

Welcome to our Year 5 web pages.

Please enjoy finding out about what we have been up to in Year 5!

During Year 5, independence is developed in preparation for the next stage of learning while also becoming more responsible in the wider school community.

We undertake tasks that develop a whole range of skills across the curriculum and also in the real world, coming in line with the New Curriculum.

The New Curriculum will become statutory from September 2022. It is a knowledge and skills based curriculum for ages 3-16.

The ethos of the curriculum is based around four key purposes, which will enable learners to become:

-ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives.

-enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work.

-ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world.

-healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

Time in Year 5 will be spent covering a range of child initiated topics.

Our Topics are split over Year 5 and Year 6 so children will study all of the topics in one or other of these years.

We also have Focus topics of:

The Rights of the Child

Welsh Fortnight

Enterprise Fortnight

Along with this we have Independent Learning weeks.

All of these topics brought together give children a well rounded and balanced curriculum, developing knowledge, skills and encouraging their own interests and learning styles.
